OIL to host PSPB soccer in city

GUWAHATI, Feb 14 � Oil India Limited (OIL) has been given the responsibility to host the 35th edition of the inter unit football championship by the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB).

OIL has decided to organise the championship at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Regional Centre ground here. The championship will be held from February 16 to 20 where six petroleum companies-ONGC, EIL (Engineering India Limited), HPCL, NRL, IOC (AOD) and host OIL will vie for the title.

Informing about the championship, organising secretary Tridib Duvarah revealed in a press conference here today that they have completed all the arrangements for hosting the meet successfully. It will be a league-cum-knock out affair where the participating teams will be divided into two groups.

The Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) will provide technical support in organising the meet. The organisers have nominated Subhash Basumatary, director in charge of the SAI city centre and Munin Nobis, president of GSA as tournament and technical director respectively.

Convenor of the organising committee Sanjay Kumar Rai said several international players like Jatin Singh Bist, SK Tarif, Lavino Fernandes, Sudipta Banerjee, Geremsha Basumatary, Minto Boro, Jyotish Basumatary will be seen in action for different teams in the meet.

Working president Hiren Chandra Bora intimated that defending champions and host OIL is well prepared for retaining the title as all the players are raring to go for the meet.

Noted footballers of the State Gilbertson Sangma and Tasen Bora will be present as guests in the opening and closing ceremony respectively.
