OIL to host PSPB bridge meet in city

GUWAHATI, Feb 16 � Oil India Limited (OIL) will host the 32nd edition of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) Inter Unit Bridge Tournament here at Hotel Nakshytra from February 19 to 23.

Giving details about the championship, TK Duarah, Head, PL (Operation), who is also the organising president, said PSPB, under the aegis of Petroleum Ministry has been a pillar of strength and support for various sports in the country. The oil sector organisation have nurtured top level sportspersons like Virender Sehwag, Praveen Amre, P Gopichand, Saina Nehwal, Sushanta Bora, Monalisa Baruah Mehta, Mantu Ghosh, S Sarath Kamal, Paulami Ghatak, Mouma Das and others.

PSPB also hosts all the sporting events annually to encourage sportspersons, Duarah said.

RK Talukdar, Chief Manager (Admin) and working president of this championship said about 90 players from seven oil sectors will take part in the meet. The participating organisations are � IOC (2), AOD (0), BPL, ONGC (3), OIL (2), HPCL, GAIL. Organising secretary Tridib Duvarah was also present in the press conference and explained about the organisational side of the meet. Last year the championship was organised by IOC (AOD) at Digboi where the host team won the title pushing ONGC to second spot.

This time Assam Bridge association is providing help in organising the meet. VK Sharma is the chief tournament director while Gautam Roy is the tournament director.
