OIL retain PSPB soccer crown

GUWAHATI, Feb 20 � Defending champions and host Oil India Limited (OIL) retained the title in the PSPB Inter Unit Football Championship.

In a keenly contested final played at the SAI Regional Centre ground here today, OIL edged past last year�s runners up ONGCL by the barest of margin.

After a barren first session skipper Mintu Boro netted the match winning goal in the 80th minute with a cleverly taken heading. Finding the opponent goalkeeper Bilifang Narzary out of position, Mintu gently put the ball inside the goal with a mild header.

Bitopan Sonowal of NRL was adjudged as the best player of the tournament while the best player of the final trophy went to OIL�s Mintu Boro. OIL team was also presented the best team award in march past.

Earlier, in the play off match for the third position NRL beat HPCL 3-1.

In the closing function OIL official VK Verma, Group General Manager Admn, UR Bora, GM Commercial, Sushil Singh, PSPB official, Krishna Bora, president employees union, former international footballer Tashen Bora, GSA president Munin Nobis, SAI Reginla Centre director in charge Subhash Basumatary were present as guests and they handed over the prizes to the teams and individuals. Organising secretary Tridib Duvarah explained the tournament report in the closing function.
