OIL adopts young sportspersons

GUWAHATI, March 21 - The Oil India Limited (OIL) adopted five young sportspersons this year considering their fine performance in various championships.

Addressing the media in a press conference here today, the OIL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Utpal Bora said, �To encourage the young sportspersons of the State, OIL has been adopting sportspersons of various events who are serving the nation, State and the company in various sporting arenas.

�I hope this batch of youngsters will improve after joining OIL as we will provide them all facilities to hone their talents,� Bora said.

Senior OIL officer Rajib Baruah said that the OIL has a specific sports policy and under that they provide ample opportunities to their adopted sportspersons through which they can excel in their respective events.

Former ace table tennis player Arunjyoti Baruah, who is now a senior officer of the company said, �OIL is the only petroleum company which appoints maximum number of sportspersons and OIL is providing all possible support to the State sportspersons. The sportspersons also have the opportunity to become senior officers in the company.�

Other senior OIL officers including Tridib Duvarah, BK Mishra, Jadab Kalita were also present on the occasion.

The sportspersons adopted are: Riyan Parag, Mukhtar Hussain (cricket, as contractual), Trisha Gogoi, Agniv Bhaskar Gohain (TT, as scholarship holders), Swarna Raj Bora (badminton, as scholarship holder).
