Officials asked to cooperate in Census, poll works

SILCHAR, Feb 8 � In view of the coming elections, the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Harendra Kumar Dev Mahanta on Tuesday held important discussions with the heads and other officials of various departments related to issues of public importance. Initiating the discussion, Dev Mahanta stressed on completion of all ongoing development schemes and projects by February 10. It was pointed out by him that the approaches to all the polling booths have to be repaired and improved for the convenience of electorates. At the same time, he directed the concerned officials of the department to remove or wash out any graffiti, slogans or any other matter related to election by political parties.

While reviewing the implementation of the development schemes, it was revealed by the Agriculture Department that under Kisan Credit Card, 4,323 beneficiaries have been provided loan of Rs 18.23 crore. The Sales Tax Department shared the information that till January of this year Rs 7,22,80,899 have been collected as tax. The Deputy Commissioner advised all officials and staff not to leave their places of work during the election process without his written permission. It was also conveyed by him that no government officials, employees and teachers should have any direct or indirect affiliation with any political party and if any complaint in this regard was received, it would be treated as a violation of the code of conduct and dealt with severely.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that all officials and staff should extend all possible help and cooperation in the Census works to be undertaken from February 9 that would conclude on February 28 as well as in the electoral process. Others who attended the meeting included the CEO of ZP Banhishikha Dutta, ADC SK Das and DRDA Project Director Madhumita Choudhury.
