Odd-even rule to continue in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, Nov 1 - The odd-even rule for movement of non-essential vehicles in Dimapur town and on National Highway 29 till Chumukedima town will continue till November 30.

Dimapur Commissioner of Police Rothihu Tetseo today issued an order for regulating the movement of non-essential vehicles in the interest of public safety due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, only vehicles with registration number ending with an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7 and 9) will be allowed to ply.

Similarly, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, only vehicles with registration number ending with an even number (2, 4, 6, 8 and 0) will be allowed on the roads.

The order said this restriction will not be enforced on Sundays and the essential services vehicles have been exempted.

The government servants on bona fide government duty and vehicles engaged in providing essential services and in COVID-19 related duties have also be exempted from the purview of the restriction on production of relevant documents and valid ID proof.

Two-wheelers have also been exempted from this restriction.

The order said that all heavy vehicles, except those engaged in the four-lane construction work with valid permit, would be barred from plying within the town area and the highway from 9 am to 3 pm. It warned that any violation of the order will invite penalty under Sections 177 and 179 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

The Police Commissioner appealed to all citizens to cooperate in the interest of public safety.
