Oakland emerge champs

GUWAHATI, Dec 2 - Oakland English School lifted the Mrigen Sarma Memorial Trophy after winning the final of the 12th All Assam Inter School Cricket Tournament.

In the well contested final played at the Latasil playground here today, Oakland defeated South Point School by four wickets. South Point School set a winning target of 173 for the Oakland boys in 35 overs. The Oakland batsmen made a brilliant chase and scored 174 losing six wickets in 32.2 overs. Ashis Bharti of the winning team walked away with the man of the final award.

In the closing function former cricketer Bimal Bharali and donor Rani Devi gave away the trophies to the runners-up and champions team respectively.

The championship was organised by the River Rine Cricket Coaching Centre where 19 schools took part.

Brief scores: South Point 172/6 (Sanjay Kr Singh 33, Bishal Pratim Sarma 28, Washim Sahil Saikia 21; Munna Ali 2/23, Ashis Bharti 2/32). Oakland 174/6 (Sarfaraj Ahmed 39, Rahul Kr Singh 27, Ashis Bharti 20).
