Nurses body threatens stir

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, March 3 - The All Assam Nurses Association (AANA) has threatened to boycott medical duties, including emergency services across the State on March 27 and 28 next in protest against alleged anomalies in the revised pay package.

Junu Chutia Dehingia, general secretary of the nurses body said that all GNM nurses will stay away from duties for two days as a mark of protest.

We have also resolved to boycott emergency services. We have communicated our grievances on several occasions to the State Government, but we have not received any positive response from the powers that be, said Dehingia.

The nurses body alleged that over 12,000 GNM nurses who are serving in various medical colleges and Government-run hospitals have been deprived of their entitlements. The B Sc and GNM nurses are appointed as staff nurse, but now staff nurse has been struck down for the GNM nurses and there is also a vast difference in the grade pay of the GNM and B Sc nurses. This is a clear case of discrimination. How can there be differences in pay for one post on the merit of qualification, asked Dehingia.
