NSF�s foundation day observed

MORIGAON, Aug 19 - The 5th foundation day of National Solidarity Forum (NSF) was observed here at Morigaon yesterday. The day started with the flag hoisting by Khagen Chandra Bordoloi, president, Jatiya Oikya Mancha. This was followed by shradhanjali to late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and floral tributes were paid by Rama Kanta Deori, MLA, Morigaon and founder president of Jatiya Oikya Mancha.

The open meeting held on the occasion was presided over by Khagen Chandra Bordoloi, president, Jatiya Oikya Mancha.

Explaining the purpose of the meeting, Ajit Deka, spokesperson of the mancha said that the NSF was formed with an aim to uplift the tribal people living various parts of the State, but development among them is still a distant dream.

Speaking on the occasion, Rama Kanta Deori, MLA, Morigaon said that he could not fulfil the promises made during the election, but now he is trying his level best to uplift the economic conditions of the poor rural people of Morigaon district. Deori said that in reality, tribal people are yet to get their legitimate rights.

Addressing the gathering, Keshab Mahanta, executive president, AGP and Minister of Water Resources, said that socio-cultural identity of Tiwas and other tribes must by preserved at any cost to enrich the greater Assamese society of Assam. Mahanta further said constitutional safeguard to the tribal people of Assam is also a demand of AGP. He further said that all historical places of Morigaon district must be protected.

In the meeting, Sibaji Deka, general secretary of AKRSU also spoke and expressed serious concern over the anomalies in NRC update process in Morigaon district. In the open function, several leaders of different tribal organisatioins and several EMs of Tiwa Autonomous Council also took part.
