NSCN-K recruiting child soldiers

DIMAPUR, Sept 9 - The Assam Rifles has accused NSCN (K) of continuing with its drive to recruit school children at gunpoint with the peace-loving people of Nagaland having refused to support any form of violence and not willing to replenish the depleting strength of their cadres.

According to a press release issued by the Assam Rifles, tn the latest recruitment drive, fifteen youths from Phek district have been forcefully taken away by the cadres of self-styled Brig Kurichu, Commander of Mobile-V Group of NSCN(K), operating between Phek district and Tsera (Myanmar).

The youngest student recruited is only fourteen years of age. These youths have been taken to Tsera camp in Myanmar, from where they are being sent to Ngiakching camp (Myanmar) for basic military training.

The release alleged that the actions of NSCN(K) are in direct contravention of the Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.
