DIMAPUR, April 2 � The NSCN (K) has justified the abrogation of ceasefire with the Government of India, saying continued extension of the ceasefire was futile since the Union Government had not even once expressed the courtesy to discuss Naga sovereignty issue which was the only basis of the Naga struggle.
The outfit�s chairman SS Khaplang declared abrogation of the ceasefire with the Centre on March 27 and then dissolved its ceasefire supervisory board besides expelling members of the board.
NSCN (K) military supervisor for Nagaland self-styled Lt Gen Niki Sumi, in a statement, asserted that �peace and sovereignty� were indivisible components in the context of the �Naga struggle�.
He maintained that the clamour for �peace without even an inclination to discuss sovereignty issue or resolution of sovereignty, is only farce� and added that any settlement or solution, short of sovereignty would only be a betrayal of Nagas� historical and political legacy�.
Coming down on �detractors� of NSCN/GPRN by accusing it of being anti-peace and anti-cease fire, Niki said they ought to realise that 14 years of cease fire with the Government of India was only a �psychological ploy� to undermine and demoralise �the patriotic spirit and fervour of the Nagas.�
Niki sought to point out that SS Khaplang had �single-handedly been weighing liberation war against India and Myanmar for more than 50 years even when all his contemporary compatriots abandoned him and fell victim to the lure of the Government of India.�
He said after the dawn of democracy in Myanmar, Nagas under Khaplang-led GPRN were invited to join the union of Myanmar. But Khaplang refused the offer and even boycotted the first Myanmar democratic elections in the Naga areas, Niki said. He said it was only after constant demand from the Nagas of Myanmar, to give peaceful political dialogue a chance, did Khaplang comply to an unconditional ceasefire with Myanmar.
