NSCN-IM leader sentenced to life in Manipur

IMPHAL, June 30 � National Socialist Council of Nagalim-IM leader �Lieutenant Colonel� Hopeson Ningshen has been sentenced to life imprisonment for abducting and murdering three Manipur Government officials.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the triple murder of Dr Kishan and two subordinate staff informed this at a press conference here this evening.

Special CBI Judge Vinaykumar Gupta at Patiala House Court in New Delhi pronounced its verdict today convicting Ningshen for committing the offence. The accused is punishable for murder, kidnapping for ransom besides other criminal conspiracies under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

With the announcement of the final verdict, the JAC which has been struggling to get justice in the case for the last five years, has been dissolved.

The CBI had registered a case in connection with the triple murder of sub-divisional officer of Kasom Khullen, Ukhrul district, Dr Kishan and two subordinate staff, Y Token, a Mandal and driver A Rajen after the case was handed over to it on January 31, 2010. The final hearing and argument of the case was completed recently in the Special CBI Court after a three-year long trial.

The bodies of the three abducted by NSCN (IM) were found at Taphou on National Highway-2 (Imphal-Dimapur road) in Senapati dstrict on February 17, 2009.
