ITANAGAR, June 27 - Continuing its crackdown on the underground outfits of the region, the Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles under the DAO Division, during an operation conducted in Khonsa town of Tirap district, apprehended an overground worker of the NSCN (I-M), Nahang Tangjang, the bazaar secretary of Khonsa, on Tuesday.

A press release stated that several complaints against Tangjang were received in the past and he was caught by security forces while trying to provide administrative and logistic support to the NSCN faction.

During initial investigation, Tangjang admitted his support to the NSCN (I-M) in facilitating extortion activities in the Khonsa market and revealed that he was in regular communication with the cadres of the NSCN (I-M).

He also admitted to extorting money on behalf of the NSCN (I-M) from various government departments.
