NSCN group caution on oil, gas extraction

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, July 29 The NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) has reiterated that any company, be it Indian or international, willing to explore and extract mineral resources in Nagaland must first invest in setting up infrastructure in the State to ensure that employment and other opportunities are available to the Naga youths.

Informing this in an MIP release, the outfit said it desires that all oil and gas companies who have expressed the desire to extract the natural resources in Nagaland must first set up oil refineries and related machineries in Nagaland, adding that NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) will not allow any company to transport crude oil outside Nagaland.

It also cautioned the companies, groups and individuals having notions that extracted crude oil will be transported to refineries in other states that NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) will firmly resist exploitation of Nagas in any manner.

It further sought to inform the general Nagas and different companies/organisations involved in negotiating for the possible extraction of oil and natural gas and other mineral resources in Nagaland, that Nagas are the sole owners of their land and whatever mineral wealth that lay underneath.

Meanwhile, the NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) has also sought to warn the tax collectors of rival group NSCN (K) under the UT I, while stating that there are reports of former comrades who defected to Suruhuto camp utilising the services of anti-social elements to distribute information slips and extortion notes to the business community and commercial outlets, particularly in Dimapur. It informed that some of these elements have been arrested in recent times and are in the custody of NSCN (Khole-Kitovi).

Stating that NSCN (Khole-Kitovi), through its Dimapur town command, Naga Army, the UT I, Crime Control Cell and the Security Bureau will be on a lookout for those anti-social elements who are attempting to collect tax for the runaway party at Suruhuto camp, the outfit appealed the public to be cautious of such elements doing the duty of the party in the form of distributing information slips, extortion notes and collecting cash. It added that they will henceforth be viewed as active collaborators of the crime against the Nagas and that it would pursue any course of action deemed fit against these elements.

Further, maintaining that its rival group appears to be obsessed with the outdated policy of killing in cold blood to create fear psychosis among the Nagas, the NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) under the leadership of Gen (Retd) Khole Konyak and Ato Kilonser N Kitovi Zhimomi said it insists that bloodshed among the Nagas is futile.
