NRL to host PSPB volleyball meet in city

GUWAHATI, March 11 � The Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) Corporate Office will host the 35th edition of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) Inter Unit Volleyball Tournament at the Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium, Sarusajai sports complex here from March 12 to 15.

Revealing about the championship in a press conference here today, AK Bhattacharya, GM (HR) said altogether four PSPB units � Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Oil India Limited (OIL) and host NRL � will be vying for the crown in the championship which will be played in league-cum-knock out basis.

Bhattacharya further informed that some of the leading spikers of the country like Ranjit Singh, Navjit Singh, Y Subba Rao (all for ONGC), Vibin George, Rohit P, Zerome Vineet, EK Kishore Kumar, Tom Joseph, who is also an Arjuna awardee, (all for BPCL) will be seen in action in the meet.

Informing about the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy of NRL, Bhattacharya said they have already set up a football academy at Numaligarh from which they have been able to produce some State level players in the junior category. They are also planning to start a badminton academy at Farkating .

Other NRL officials, B Ekka and Madhuchanda Adhikari were also present in the press conference. Ekka, GM (Mkt and BD) explained about the proposed badminton academy.
