NRL sends first wax consignment through ICD

GUWAHATI, July 15 - The Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) today despatched its first wax container export consignment using the ICD-Amingaon facilities at Guwahati, an NRL press release stated.

The containers will be transported through rake to the Kolkata port from where it will be further shipped to a Kenya-based importer. The current arrangement of export using ICD�Amingaon is for three months, which is likely to be extended in the future. The NRL plans to export 900 MT of wax during the aforesaid period. Exports through ICD Amingaon will be mutually beneficial for both the NRL and the inland depot, the release stated adding that the NRL will be saving in freight while the arrangement will provide a business boost to ICD Amingaon.

The NRL has started sales of paraffin wax in the domestic market and exports since commissioning of the wax plant, the largest single unit producing wax in the country in 2015. The wax plant was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 5, 2016. Paraffin wax is used in making candles, tarpaulin sheets, food grade wrappers and in PVC pipe manufacturing industries while microcrystalline wax finds widespread application in the manufacture of tyres, rubber products, paints and polishes, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, the release added.
