NRC re-verification exercise in Hailakandi from today

HAILAKANDI, Nov 30 - The re-verification of documents relating to the fifty thousand NRC applications will be started in Hailakandi district from December 1 alongwith the rest of the State.

Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner Krishna Gobinda Bhuyan informed the media that 193 re-verification teams have been constituted in the district and 734 government employees of different categories have been included in these teams.

Fresh identity cards have been issued to these members for visiting the houses of applicants for the purpose of verification of documents.

Bhuyan sought the cooperation of people of the district for successful completion of the re-verification exercise.

He said the matter related to the validity of certificates issued by the panchayats in regard to the married women is lying with the Supreme Court, which will give its decision on the matter.

The Deputy Commissioner said there are no sensitive centres in the district and the officials can freely visit the houses for verification of documents. Adequate security measures have also been taken in various parts of the district in view of the re-verification exercise.

Bhuyan said the people are being informed through microphones at the villages.

Meanwhile, Katlicherra Sub Divisional Officer (Sadar) James Aind informed that 43 re-verification teams will verify about 10,500 documents submitted with the 30,000 applications in the Katlicherra revenue circle.

Radhe Shyam Biswas, AIUDF MP from Karimganj, has urged the people of the Barak Valley to extend cooperation to the officials during the door-to-door re-verification of NRC documents.

Speaking to reporters at the Circuit House here after meeting Cachar Deputy Commissioner Dr S Laxmanan and Superintendent of Police Rakesh Roushan on Thursday, the AIUDF MP said, �The re-verification of documents will be a mega exercise to make the NRC list error-free. Hence, the people of the valley should extend their cooperation with the government officials.�
