GUWAHATI, Aug 30 - With tomorrow being the last date for submission of NRC forms, 66.70 lakh households across the State have so far submitted their filled-up forms.

NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela said that the percentage of households which have submitted their application forms stood at 104 per cent.

The number is more than 100 per cent as the base was taken from the number of households in the 2011 Census.

The number of households has gone up in the past four years, he said, adding that the response so far has been very good considering the total number of households who have submitted their NRC forms.

The Supreme Court had initially fixed July 31 as the last date for submission of forms.

It later extended the deadline by a month to allow a new category of applicants - Indian citizens who migrated to Assam from other States after March 24, 1971 to apply for inclusion in the updated NRC.

Once the period for submission of forms is over, the next phase of the NRC update process field verification will be taken up.
