NRC, CAB will solve the issue of illegal migration: Ram Madhav

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, April 16 - As the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 18 inches closer, both BJP and its principal opponent Congress is making best possible use of political resources to woo the voters of Barak Valley.

While the two seats viz Silchar and Karimganj (SC reserved) has literally become a big challenge for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to capture, Congress is highlighting the loopholes of the ruling party to win the hearts and minds of the electorates. Your votes to the BJP candidates in Silchar and Karimganj shall count for Modi, the Prime Minister had said on April 11 at Ramnagar here.

Speaking about the projects delivered by the Government in the past five years across Assam and North East including the much awaited Broad-gauge trainline connecting the valley with rest of India, the BJP leadership is now making convincing promises of giving constitutional sanction to the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, once it is back to power on May 23.

It is only a matter of a few months. The NRC and CAB will eventually solve the vexed issue of illegal infiltration of people from across borders in Assam. If anyone is left out of the final NRC list, he or she might sneak an opportunity to claim for citizenship rights via the CAB. However, the Ministry of Home Affairs will design a separate policy for those found to be not featuring in NRC or CAB, said Ram Madhav, BJPs national general secretary in Silchar on Tuesday.

Addressing media persons during his visit to campaign for Dr Rajdeep Roy and Kripanath Mallah, Madhav echoed the claims of partys national president Amit Shah, Modi is contesting from every seat. Justifying the claim, Madhav made it clear that neither him nor his party is complacent on this, rather they are approaching for the mandate with their report card. There is no alternative to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is making tireless efforts to make India powerful. What the Opposition is alluring is an alternative that promotes unrest, nepotism and an inefficient Government, he maintained. He slammed the opposition for politicising the sacrifices of the Armed Forces going hard on terrorist activities by Pakistan and even confusing the people of Assam on the CAB. He informed that BJP along with its allies in Assam and North East is expecting to win over 21 seats.

On the other hand, the Congress is banking on the failure of the Government to revive the Cachar and Nagaon Paper Mills and resume production therein. AICC general secretary and Assam incharge Harish Rawat said that the Modi-led Government has ruined the mill at Panchgram which had flourished during the Congress tenure. Former Union Minister Santosh Mohan Dev was instrumental in establishing the Paper industry here. But look at how this government has destroyed the solitary major job avenue in the valley because of which people are dying, he said.

Campaigning for Sushmita Dev in Silchar, the former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand said that the NYAY scheme will be a revolution in ensuring the rights of the people. Along with NYAY, the Congress will work to restore the special category status of Assam and weave a new industrial policy prioritising issues of Assam and North East. It shall also work to redesign the GST into a single slab and end the tax terror in the country, Rawat was quoted as saying.

Reacting on the CAB, Rawat mocked at the Prime Minister saying, let the Prime Minister of the country come to a clear term on the issue.
