DIMAPUR, July 10 - The ruling NPF in Nagaland has appealed to the Government of India to maintain ceasefire with all underground groups to create a conducive atmosphere for negotiations, as the Naga issue needed a political solution which is only possible through negotiations and not with arms or violent confrontation.
Adopting a six-point resolution pertaining to the political scenario in the State at a meeting of its central office bearers in Kohima on July 9, the NPF earnestly appealed to NSCN (K) to �re-consider� the 14-year-old ceasefire it abrogated with the Government of India in response to the wishes and desires of people for a violence-free environment and to enable all stakeholders to move freely and unhindered towards finding an honourable and lasting solution to the protracted Naga political problem.
The party also urged upon the Centre to withdraw the declaration of the coverage of Disturbed Areas Act in entire State of Nagaland and confine the enforcement of the Act to the Indo-Myanmar international border, as in the past, if at all, the Act had to continue.
The NPF also vehemently condemned acts of violence in the form of ambush/attack/raid on military/armed cadres; bombings in public places that posed grave hazards to the safety of innocent civilians.
The meeting condemned collection of illegal taxes with threats to execute defaulters, smuggling of explosive devices into Nagaland by underground groups that vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in society and also create uncertainty and fear in the minds of people.
The NPF also urged upon the civil societies to continue with their endeavour for bringing all Nagas together to one table and to speak in one voice.
