Notification issued for Tripura civic polls

AGARTALA, Nov 12 - The State Election Commission today issued the notification to hold elections to the Agartala Municipal Corporation, 13 municipal councils and six Nagar Panchayats and byelections to casual vacancies in the Panchayat.

The elections are scheduled to be held on December 9. With the issue of the notification, the election process will gain momentum and candidates will submit their nomination papers.

The last date of filing nomination papers is November 19, while the scrutiny will take place on November 20. The last date for the withdrawal of nomination papers is November 23. The counting of votes will take place on December 9.

District magistrates of all eight districts have already been appointed as District Municipal Election Officers to coordinate and supervise all work related to the

elections.

To ensure free and fair elections, the State Election Commission has already held an all-party meeting to give a briefing on election guidelines and receive feedback.

Besides, the Commission also held a high-level meeting on the security aspects. �We have already held meetings with senior police officers to review the prevailing law-and-order situation in the State. They will assess the security measures and do what is necessary,� said a senior State Election Commission official here.

There will be altogether 963 polling booths for elections to the Agartala Municipal Corporation, 13 municipal councils and six Nagar Panchayats.

There will be byelections to 25 vacant seats in the three-tier panchayats.

According to the final voters list, an electorate of 5,37,968 will cast votes in the civic polls all over the State.

In the Agartala Municipal Corporation, the strength of the electorate is 3,10,768, of whom 1,55,035 are male and 1,55,733 are female voters.
