Notice on UAN implementation

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Oct 28 - The UAN (Universal Account Number) programme was launched by EPFO in 2014 with an objective to provide one umbrella number to its members for all employments of an EPF member with different establishments, a press release issued by the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner B Lalzamang received here stated.

Under this programme, a number of services were provided to the members viz., updated passbook, dynamically updated UAN card, SMS services on registered mobile numbers etc.

At present, the EPFO is in the process of development and implementation of the next version of UAN, whereby the UAN of an EPF member is to be obtained/linked with the present employment by the employer before filling the ECR.

Under the current process, the employer is to declare about the first time employment of member to obtain his new UAN or link the UAN or previous member ID in case the new employee has a previous EPF membership.

The proposed process under UAN 2.0 requires the allotment of UAN upfront and the ECR can be filed only in case of such members where UAN has either been allotted to member or the previous UAN has been linked to his present employment.

Implementation of the revised ECR requires that all the contributing members should have UAN, failing which the employer would not be able to remit the dues in respect of these members.

Presently, there are about 1,21,981 tasks pending with 5,115 employers in the North Eastern region for declaration. These employers have therefore been directed to clear the above-mentioned pendency by November 15, 2016 in their own interest, the release concluded.
