GUWAHATI, June 14 - Noted sports organiser Deba Gogoi, 70, popularly known as Bubu breathed his last at his Hapjan residence, near Naharkatia this morning.
A dedicated sports organiser Gogoi was a confirmed bachelor and devoted his life for the cause of sports. In the entire Dibrugarh district he organised various sports activities and was instrumental in producing numerous national and international players from that area during 1970s to 1990s. He also led various teams from Assam to national championship.
Naharkatia had been able to produce several football, volleyball, hockey players only because of his sincere effort. He was the first person to introduce women football in Assam.
His death was widely mourned by the sporting fraternity of the State.
Organisations like Naharkatia SA, Dibrugarh DSA and Assam Cricket Association condoled the demise of Gogoi.
