GORESWAR, Jan 28: Kanthi Saikia (76), a resident of Pubpar Lokra village near Gashbari on the outskirts of Kamrup (R) district and a noted journalist, social worker and a former assistant teacher of Brindaban HS School, passed away on Thursday noon at his residence due to old-age ailments.


He was a local correspondent of The Assam Tribune from Goreswar for a long period of about 26 years. He started writing in The Assam Tribune as a local correspondent from 1991 till 2017. He was also awarded Kamala Saikia award for his professional work. He was also the founder president of Goreswar Press Club. He was a sincere and devoted teacher.


He retired from service as an assistant teacher from Brindaban High School and served the area as a social worker and was deeply connected with many social institutions.


Teachers and students of Bridaban HS School, Gashbari High School, Gashbari Adarsha Jatiya Bidyalai, Bidyajyoti Niketon, members of Goreswar Press Club, Goreswar Sakha Sahitya Sabha and Gashbari Chowk committee, Gashbari Anchalik Durga Puja Committee have condoled his demise.


He is survived by his two sons, three daughters and a host of relatives.
