GUWAHATI, Dec 26 � Noted artiste Bhabesh Thakur passed away at his Lakhimi Nagar, Hatigaon residence last night.
Thakur was 72 and had been ailing for some time.
An acclaimed lyricist and music director, Thakur is credited with the creation of many an evergreen composition such as �Batori ahise praneswari�, �Eikhan ki gaon sinike napao�, �Janata mor pranor janata�, among others.
Thakur was predeceased by his wife Runumi Thakur, an eminent singer of the State.
Born at Sivasagar on August 29, 1939, Thakur retired as Director, Assam Mineral Development Corporation in 2000. He leaves behind two daughters and a host of relatives.
