NEW DELHI, Feb 18 (IANS): An ensemble of amazing rock music, folk songs and dances from the northeast has enthralled the crowd at the Jamia Millia Islamia University here.

Some 600 students Friday evening participated in the annual celebration of culture and music organised by the university's Centre for North East Studies.

Welcoming the audience, centre director Sanjoy Hazarika said it is necessary to acquaint people about the region's rich culture.

He said the event will go a long way in strengthening the bond between the people of the region and the rest of the country.

The event, organised at the Safdar Hashmi Ampitheatre, was held for the second consecutive year. The theme was "Music from the Borders".

The programme started with rock music performance by a Delhi-based group. Bihu and Manipuri folk dances and a cultural show from Sikkim were also presented. Other musical groups from the northeast - Nagaland Singing Ambassadors and Rewben & Saka Mashangva - also regaled the audience.
