NEW DELHI, Aug 16 (PTI): Expressing deep concern over attacks on people from the northeast in other parts of the country, MPs from the region today sought adequate protection for those belonging to the area.
"It is a matter of serious concern that violent incidents are taking place in metropolitan cities particularly in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune, where people from the northeast have been subjected to atrocities," Chairman of Northeast MPs Forum Mukul Mithi told reporters outside Parliament.
Meanwhile, Congress MPs from the Northeast today met party chief Sonia Gandhi and apprised her of the situation arising out of the reports of exodus of people of the region from Bangalore and some other cities.
