North Lakhimpur mourns bus accident deaths

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Oct 27 � A peaceful village on the outskirts of North Lakhimpur town is rattled with movement of vehicles as thousands are thronging to console its closely knitted inhabitants who lost four of their fellow villagers in the tragic bus accident in the wee hours of Sunday. The bus was carrying pilgrims from this district for a North India tour.

Dhenudhoria on the southeast of the district headquarters town lost four of its villagers � Ananda Bora (70), a retired employee of the water resources department and his wife Neelima Bora (60), Jogen Baruah (56), headmaster of Madhya Telahi ME School and Rupa Bora alias Padumi in that tragedy. Four other persons, Dhanada Saikia (45) of the neighbouring Baligaon, Muktinath Dutta (60) of Hokachapori, Azad, Runu Hazarika (45), assistant teacher of Dakshin Telahi ME School and Kusheswar Gogoi (42), the driver of the ill-fated bus, also lost their lives in that accident at Uluwoni near Koliabor in Nagaon district en-route to Guwahati.

On Monday there was gloom all over North Lakhimpur as the bodies of the dead reached the town. People gathered in large numbers in North Lakhimpur Police Station to pay their last respects to the deceased. Later, the bodies were taken to their respective villages and cremated with religious customs.

Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Bothra along with ADC Devananda Das, RCO Manoj Kutum and other officials visited the victims� families and offered their condolences. The Lakhimpur district unit of different political parties and other organisations also expressed their deep condolences to the members of the bereaved families.
