North-east Consumer Awards presented

GUWAHATI, Nov 13 � The North-east Consumer Awards instituted by Dainik Purvoday, a Hindi daily of the North-east, were presented to the most preferred brands adjudged by 3,000 valid household survey by research agency MaRS across five cities of the North-east, at a function in the city on Saturday.

The category list this year has increased from last year�s 30 to 37 to include airlines, watches, apparels, shoes and digital cameras, a press release said.

While SBI was declared the most preferred bank in the financial category, LIC won the most preferred Life Insurance award. ONGC was awarded with best company of the year award. In the consumer durables category, LG products dominated with three awards out of seven for most preferred brands for refrigerators, washing machines and microwaves.

The other company which won awards in this category was Korean consumer durable major Samsung, Japanese giant Panasonic and small appliances leader Bajaj Electricals. They were voted most preferred brands for LCD TVs & ACs, Plasma TVs and Kitchen Appliances respectively. Star Cement and Dyna Roof was winner in Cements and colour roofing sheets segments.

The undisputed leader of passenger car market Maruti Suzuki won the Most Preferred Brand of Cars award. The best two-wheeler brand award went to Hero Honda while Tata Motors was clear winner in commercial vehicles segment.

In the telecom category, Airtel was voted as the best cellular service provider, while Tata Photon was chosen as the best broadband service provider. Vodafone was selected as best brand of the year while Team Aircel was best corporate team of the Year. Nokia and Samsung Mobile walked away with the most preferred mobile phone and most preferred smartphone award respectively. Dell and Canon were selected as most preferred laptop and digital camera brand respectively.

In the retail category, Big Bazaar won the most preferred one stop shopping centre award while Tanishq won award in jewelries segment. In the lifestyle category, Park Avenue, Levis, Titan and Adidas won the award in Men's apparel, denims, watches and shoe segments. Kingfisher and Pushpak won the awards in Domestic Airlines and Air Travel Agency segment respectively.

In general category, Pranab Barua, CEO of Madura Garments, was awarded with the Hall of Fame Award. Young Professionals of the year were Abhishek Mathur and Bikas Gogoi. Corporate Citizen of the year went to Infinity IT Park.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor JB Patnaik who was the chief guest, said, �This is the only study of its kind which captures a wide range of demographics and geographies and is extremely robust in sample size and product category width.�
