Non-motorised mobility planned for Aizawl

AIZAWL, Dec 27 - Non-Motorised Mobility for Aizawl is being planned to ease traffic congestion in the city. A workshop was held in this regard by Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) department here recently.

Speaking on the occasion, UD & PA Minister Zodintluanga underlined the need for cooperation between the government and the people to ease the problem created by traffic congestion.

Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor PC Lalhmingthanga also spoke in the workshop and called for initiatives as per Aizawl Master Plan.

UD&PA Secretary C Vanlalramsanga who delivered Keynote address emphasised on the need of proper system of Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) in Aizawl. iTrans MD and CEO Dr Anvita Arora presided over the workshop while Project Management Consultant (PMC) Team Leader Sudesh Kumar dwelt on Sustainable Urban Transport Project (SUTP).

In December 2013, representatives from Aizawl had voiced the wish to prepare NMT plan in a workshop in New Delhi. Selecting Aizawl and Vishakapatnam, Union Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) has made a draft plan.

MoUD also selected IBI Group and Innovative Transport Solutions (iTrans) to prepare Guidance Documents on Transit Oriented Development (TOD), NMT and Bike Sharing (BS) scheme.
