Non-heinous cases against DHD to be lifted

GUWAHATI, March 25 � Criminal cases registered against members of the DHD (N) and DHD (J) outfits for non-heinous crime may be withdrawn by the State Government as per procedure established by law. Criminal cases registered against members of the two DHD groups for heinous crimes will be reviewed case by case in consonance with the existing policy on the subject, and wherever feasible, steps for withdrawal of such cases will be initiated by the State Government.

This was stated in a written reply by Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain on behalf of the Home Minister to a question by Prafulla Kumar Mahanta (AGP) in the Assembly today.

Hussain also revealed that Joel Garlosa and Niranjan Hojai, chairman and c-in-c respectively of DHD (J) and Niranjan Hojai were granted interim bail by the Gauhati High Court in connection with two NIA cases on conditions laid down by NIA. The State Government also recommended granting of bail of Garlosa and Hojai for facilitating the peace process. The interim bail of the duo has been extended periodically in the interest of signing of the memorandum of settlement that was signed between the representatives of the Government of India, Government of Assam and the DHD (N)/ DHD (J) on October 8, 2012.
