By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Dec 28 - The first day of the winter session of the Assam Legislative Assembly witnessed noisy scenes over the Assam Police SI recruitment scam, with the Opposition terming the probe as eyewash.

Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia also demanded another probe by a sitting Judge of the Gauhati High Court. He also expressed his dissatisfaction over the probe conducted by the Assam Police CID into the SI scam.

Replying to a question by AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam on the scam, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said that during the course of investigation, police had found involvement of altogether 50 persons in the case and among them 49 had been arrested so far.

Patowary also asserted the no scam took place in the SI recruitment process, as Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had cancelled the examination immediately after the leakage of the question papers.

Reacting to the clarification, Saikia asked why one particular person is still out of the net of the police. Congress MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar also demanded a discussion over the scam in the House.

After the Question Hour, Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami had to adjourn the House for around ten minutes following a noisy protest staged by the Congress and AIUDF MLAs as two separate adjournment motions moved by the Opposition was rejected by the Speaker.

The first adjournment motion moved by Debabrata Saikia and other Congress MLAs was on the States law and order situation. The other adjournment motion brought by AIUDF MLA Hafiz Bashir Ahmed was on the issues of famers of the State.
