Nodal officers to supervise pumping out of floodwaters

GUWAHATI, June 30 � Following the high-level meeting convened by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to discuss the post-flood situation in Guwahati yesterday evening at his official residence, the Water Resources Department (WRD) and Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) have appointed nodal officers to supervise pumping out of floodwaters from the worst-hit areas of Guwahati city, said an official press release here.

Additional Chief Engineer, Water Resources, Prasanta Gogoi, and Additional Commissioner, Guwahati Municipal Corporation Dayaram Rajbongshi, have been assigned the task of continuous monitoring of water level and pumping out of floodwaters round the clock. It was decided in the meeting that pumps mounted on trolleys would be procured or hired by the GMC and WRD for enhancing the capacity of the drainage channels.

A Public Grievance Redressal Cell with a special number will be set up at the Chief Minister�s Secretariat to receive complaints and suggestions on Guwahati flash floods and also on other issues. Deputy Commissioner (Metro) and GMC will open websites and install helpline numbers for receiving feedback and suggestions from the people, said the press release.
