No-trust motion postponed

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, Oct 20 - The no confidence motion against the Cachar Zila Parishad president Sathi Karmakar was postponed due to the absence of requisite members in the meeting of the Parishad on Wednesday.

Vice president Saleha Begam Laskar, who presided over the meeting, read out the Assam Panchayat Raj Act 1995 to postpone the meeting and announced that the next meeting would be held on November 7 to solve the imbroglio.

It may be mentioned here that out of the 27 members in the Zila Parishad, a quorum of 18 members was necessary to prove the no trust motion against the president and BJP, Congress along with AIUDF were waiting for Troyobasi Das, the Independent Zila Parishad member from Katigorah and a suspended BJP member for long hours but he did not turn up to attend the meeting.

Reacting to this, Sathi Karmakar said, I dont see any reason why they have brought the bring no confidence motion against me.

Interestingly, according to sources Sathi might consider herself safe even if the motion is placed again since Troyobasi has taken the primary membership of District Congress Commitee.
