No shortage of food items in State: FCI

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, July 7 There is no shortage of essential food items in any district of the state and adequate stock is being maintained in all the godowns of the Food Corporation of India (FCI), said FCI sources.

Sources said that there were some problems in movement of food stuff to the Barak Valley districts because of suspension of train services due to landslides. Though the FCI took measures for movement of essential items by road, the recent disturbance in the valley, including frequent bandhs, affected movement of trucks. However, till now there is no shortage of food items in the Barak districts, sources added.

The FCI had been maintaining adequate food items before the floods started and there should not be any shortage in any district of Assam, sources said. Sources further said that the food stock position in Assam was reviewed during the recent visit of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to the state to assess the flood situation. It may be mentioned here that after reviewing the situation, Dr Singh expressed his satisfaction at the food stock position in the state and assured to rush additional essential commodities if required.
