No operations against drug peddlers in Bongaigaon dist

By CORRESPONDENT

BONGAIGAON, Aug 26 - Police in Chirang district are continuing operations against peddlers and abusers of drugs and other narcotic substances since the past few months, but in Bongaigaon district such an operation by the police has not been seen yet, though this illegal trade is reportedly rampant in Bongaigaon also.

Police had nabbed drugs supplier Sah Dil Mohammad Khan on August 24 at Dhaligaon in Chirang district and recovered a small quantity of drugs from his possession.

On Monday, police arrested seven youths at Chapaguri in Chirang district and seized 100 kg of cannabis (ganja) from them. They were carrying this psycho-active drug from Baksa to Chirang district on three bikes. Till date, the police has arrested more than 33 persons in Chirang district in connection with drug peddling.

But in Bongaigaon district, the police has allegedly not launched a strong operation against the drug peddlers and abusers yet. Taking up the chance, the suppliers of these illegal substances have formed an easy network to reach abusers in Bongaigaon district, conscious citizens alleged.

Severe police action on drug mafia is of utmost necessity in the lower Assam districts including Bongaigaon and Chirang to finish once and for all this illegal trade and save the future generations, local senior citizens said.
