GUWAHATI, March 18 - Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary today assured the All Assam Students� Union (AASU) that no new land policy would be adopted for the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts (BTAD) areas and that the rights of people belonging to all sections of people would be restored.
At a meeting held between the members of BTC and the AASU here today, Mohilary said that the existing land policy (Revenue Act), which came into being since the signing of the BTC Accord, would continue to prevail.
The meeting assumes significance in the wake of reports that the land transfer of the people residing in the BTC areas would be restricted to selling land to tribals only, which triggered widespread protest across the State.
The AASU delegation was headed by its chief adviser
Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya, its president Dipanka Nath and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi.
The AASU during its meeting also raised the issue of posting of Assamese medium teachers in Bodo medium schools and demanded the BTC chief to take steps to streamline it.
�The BTC chief has assured that he will initiate steps to fix the problem at the earliest,� said Dr Bhattacharya.
Besides, the BTC administration was also urged to facilitate the use of Assamese language in sign boards in a prominent manner.
The BTC chief also said that he would direct the authorities concerned to clear the pending land land-related documentation work.
