No lights on Dr Bhupen Hazarika Setu

By Correspondent

DOOMDOOMA, May 27 - It has been two years since the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi inaugurated the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Setu, the nations longest river bridge and the second longest in the whole of Asia over the river Brahmaputra between Dhola and Sadiya in Tinsukia district. But, no lighting arrangement has been made on the bridge till today and as a result, the bridge plunges into darkness after the sunset.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced before the inauguration of the bridge that the bridge would be illuminated with solar lights at night. He also told that online tender of Rs 30 crore for this project had already been floated. But, the announcement is yet to fructify.

Since its inauguration on May 26, 2017, many road traffic accidents have taken place on the bridge during the night time in the absence of lights on the bridge. Regular commuters of Assam as well as Arunachal Pradesh have urged the government to provide lights on the bridge immediately.
