GUWAHATI, July 10 The Tea Board of India is yet to arrive at a consensus on marketing Indian tea in London during the forthcoming London Olympics, even though some of the Board members have come up with proposals to market tea in the biggest sports event of the globe in a big way.

Disclosing this, Tea Board Chairman MGVK Bhanu told this correspondent over phone today that the picture concerning the initiative of the Board to market the cheering brew in the event is expected to be clear within a week.

The London office of the Tea Board is also making communications on the matter, informed the Tea Board chairman.

It needs mention here that a section of the print media from outside the State have been reporting for the past couple of days that the Tea Board has drawn up an elaborate plan at an outlay of 1,52,500 (about Rs 1.17 crore) to promote Indian tea during the London Olympics.

This comprises 37,500 for branding inside the Olympic venue and Heathrow airport; 25,000 for events at South Hall; 10,000 for exhibition at South Bank Centre; 5,000 for the buyer-seller meet; 5,000 for publicity; and 7,000 for generic India brand promotion, said the report, which quoted two Tea Board members to substantiate the story.

Indian tea will be served to dignitaries at the Heathrow Airport by women wearing specially-designed Indian silk sarees and apron bearing Indian tea logos, the report said, quoting one of the above two Tea Board members as saying.
