No crisis in DAN III Govt: Nagaland Minister

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, Nov 20 Nagaland Minister for Rural Development CL John yesterday asserted that there is no crisis in the DAN-III Government under the leadership of Chief Minister TR Zeliang.

Addressing the inaugural function of the Block Development Office and District Planning Cell in Kohima, John said the present government is very stable and termed reports about change of leadership as street talk and rumour.

He said the NPF-led Ministry will complete its full term and provide a stable government till 2018 general elections.

Nevertheless, John confirmed about the division in the party stating that out of the 38 NPF MLAs, 25 are with Chief Minister.

On the financial health of the State, the Minister said the present crisis is because of the adverse recommendations of the 13th Finance Commission with regard to expenditure on salaries of government employees. As per the 13th Finance Commission, he said, expenditure on salaries of government employees should not cross 35 per cent of the total plan allocation but Nagaland Government spends more than 60 per cent on salaries.

On Tuesday, senior DAN Minister Kuzholozu (Azo) Nienu told a local news agency that the current political development in NPF and the State Government is due to trust deficit and rumours. Azo was relieved of Parliamentary Affairs portfolio as also the chief whip of the NPF recently. According to reports, Azo was at the centre of suspicion for the current political turmoil in the State.
