GUWAHATI, July 6 Even after more than two months have passed since violence in the BTAD claimed 46 persons mostly women and children families of the victims still await financial assistance announced by the Centre.
The Centre (UPA Government) had announced Rs 3 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased after targeted attacks by armed militants claimed 46 lives in Kokrajhar and Baksa districts on May 1 and May 2.
Many fear that the change of Government at the Centre might further delay the process.
Sources informed The Assam Tribune that the list of the victims was despatched by the local administration concerned immediately for the Centres nod, but till date nothing has materialised.
The State Government too, is not taking any step in this regard, which is evident from the inordinate delay, leaving the people in the lurch, sources stated.
Families of the victims are now running from pillar to post to know about the status, but to no avail. We too have no information about it, an official of the district administration told this reporter.
He however informed that the compensation of Rs 5 lakh announced by the State Government has already been handed over to the families of the victims. A couple of days back, cheques of Rs 50,000 were distributed as rehabilitation package to each of the victims for construction of the houses damaged during the violence.
As per our information, the amount from the Centre is to be transferred to the bank account of the victims kin concerned directly. But, we are not aware of any development in this regard. The people too are clueless, the official pointed out.
