AGARTALA, Feb 17 Bangladesh Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested one of the top rebel leaders of National Liberation Front of Tripura from Khagaracherri.

Based on intelligence inputs from BSF, a team of RAB, special force of Bangladesh carried out a raid at Khagracherri in Chittagong Hill Tract (CHT) on Thursday night and apprehended Subir Debbarma, self-styled vice president of the outfit. Later, he was taken to Dhaka for interrogation, according to intelligence sources here on Friday.

The move assumes significance keeping in mind of Union Home Ministers proposed visit to the State on Saturday though the visit is aimed at breaking the ice centering Reang refugees.

According to security analysts, the NLFT has suffered a major set back after the arrest of Subir Debbarma, who was looking after recruitment of new cadres and mobilisation of armed cadres to carry out attacks.

Meanwhile, police arrested one hardcore militant of Manipur based outfit PLA Kunjajam Sarat Mongang from Ushabazar area under Airport police station in West Tripura district.
