Acting on a tip-off about presence of a group of NLFT militants heaed by Bikaram Bahadur Jamatia alias Bhamtom in the jhum hut of Kompusree Tripura, a strong contingent of TSR (12th Bn) led by Subedar Bankim Debbarma launched special operation.

Around 12.15 pm, when the troops were on way to cordon off the jhum hut, the militants started fleeing from the site but one was shot dead as jawans opened fire sensing the trouble. Police said, militants while fleeing also fired back that resulted in fierce gun battle between both sides. The encounter lasted for about 30 minutes. After the gun battle, TSR jawans cordoned off the jhum hut and during search one bullet-riddled body was found there. Besides, one AK-45 rifle, 50 bullets and two live Chinese grenades were found inside the jhum hut, according to police.

There was no casualty on the part of security personnel. After receiving the information, Superintendent of Police (Dhalai) L Darlong along with additional forces rushed to the spot and launched massive combing operation to nab the fleeing ultras.

It may be noted that Majimonipur is situated close to Indo-Bangla border, around 500 meters. It has been learnt that insurgents have already crossed over the international border and entered into Bangladesh soil.

However, all the BPOs have put on high alert following the encounter. BSF jawans have intensified their vigil along the border immediately after the incident.
