GUWAHATI, May 4 � Nitish Das claimed the title in the All Assam School Chess recognised by the All Assam Chess Association and organised at the South Point School auditorium, here by the Guwahati Chess Association (GCA).
Nitish scored 8 points from 9 rounds and remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. Uddipta Kakati also scored 8 points but was declared second on the basis of tie-break score. Satabdajit S Baruah, Kaustuv Lahiri, Arunabh Gohain each scored 7 points each to get the third, fourth and fifth positions respectively on the basis of tie-break score. Uddipta Gogoi, Debanga Kalita, Neeraj P Hazarika, Dhrupad Kashyap, Amlan Mahanta, Abhilash Gautam and Divyanga Spondon Baruah scored 6.5 points each and were placed 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th 12th respectively.
Altogether 108 players from twenty schools from various parts of State participated in the event. The tournament was conducted by Salina Masum as chief arbiter.
A total amount of Rs 35,500 was distributed as prize money. Mridul Kumar Mahanta, president GCA presided over the prize distribution ceremony, where Krishnandan Chanda principal, South Point School was present as the chief guest. Prizes were distributed by M Arun Singh, secretary GCA Salina Masum, Mridul Mahanta and Krishnandan Chanda.
