Nilim Chowdhury Award presented

DIBRUGARH, Aug 13 - Veteran photojournalist and actor Hari Vinod Verma, popularly known as �W�, was presented the first Journalist Nilim Chowdhury Memorial Award by the Dibrugarh Press Club on Wednesday on the occasion of the ninth death anniversary of journalist Nilim Choudhury.

Late Nilim Chowdhury, who was in charge of the Dibrugarh University Library, had served as a reporter for various media houses during his life. He was associated with The Sentinel, Dainik Asam, Dainik Janambhumi, and Eastern Clarion. He was also a very good sports commentator and part-time reader of All India Radio.

In recognition of his contribution to the society through his journalistic work, Dibrugarh Press Club has been organising lecture events annually. However, due to the prevailing contagion crisis, a brief programme was held at the office of the Janambhumi here.

The programme was held in the presence of DPC president Prabir Chakravorty, secretary Anil Podder, Greater Dibrugarh Press Club secretary Ratul Gohain, family members of late Nilim Chowdhury and a few others. Following a tribute to the deceased journalist, the members spoke a few words in the memory of the late journalist. As the recipient could not attend the programme due to illness, office bearers of the DPC handed over the award to the photojournalist at his residence in PN Road, Shantipara. The award comprised Rs 20,000 in cash, sarai, seleng sador, japi, gamosa and a citation.
