Night curfew still on in Shillong

By Staff Correspondent

SHILLONG, June 5 - The state capital saw a burst of activities today during the curfew-relaxation period with people buying essential commodities from local markets like Iewduh (Bara Bazaar) even as there were no reports of stone-pelting from trouble-torn areas of the city.

The district authorities had yesterday imposed curfew in the whole city from 4 pm to 5 am and the timing would remain unchanged until further orders. The administration also declared today as dry day.

With sellers from outside the state capital not venturing into the city, vegetable prices skyrocketed. Vegetables and other items were also reported to be scarce in some areas.

The roads were clogged during the day, but by the afternoon, traffic thinned down and at about 4 pm the city died down with people going indoors and shops closing down.
