Night curfew clamped in Jorhat

JORHAT, Dec 12 - The Jorhat district administration today evening clamped night curfew in Jorhat town and its outskirts to maintain law and order situation. The normal life in the district was completely paralyzed for the fourth consecutive day today as thousands of people including a large number of women came out to the streets since morning till evening to oppose the CAB by shouting slogans against the Bill.

Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati, who is also the District Magistrate, told The Assam Tribune that the administration has imposed night curfew in the areas under Jorhat Sadar sub-division from 6pm today to 6am tomorrow.

She said that the night curfew will be continue in the coming days untill further orders depending on the situation. The DC said the administration was making announcement about the curfew through loudspeakers in the areas falling under Jorhat Sadar Sub-division.

The Deputy Commissioner said that situation was under control in the district apart from few sporadic incidents of violence since last night.

Meanwhile, protesters in big groups forming processions came out from the town and outskirts holding banners and posters opposing CAB and shouting slogans against the BJP-led Governments at the Centre and state. In the meantime, business, commercial establishments, banks and educational institutions remained closed while attendance in Government offices was nil. Vehicles too were off the roads.

Tryes were burnt on the streets and roads and in the National Highway-37 in many places. All educational institutes have also been closed till tomorrow. Due to closing of shops there have been reports of people facing difficulties due to stocks running out in their homes.
