Night curfew clamped in Golaghat dist

JORHAT, Dec 13 - The Golaghat district administration today clamped night curfew in entire Golaghat district from 6 pm to 6 am tomorrow to maintain law and order and not let peace and harmony disturbed in view of prevailing situation across the State and the district.

On Thursday, the district administration had clamped night curfew in Dergaon town after miscreants attacked the AGP office in Dergaon and tried to set it on fire. However, a police team came to the site and prevented the fire from spreading inside.

Golaghat Deputy Commissioner Dhiren Hazarika, who is also the District Magistrate, told The Assam Tribune tonight that the administration has clamped 12-hour night curfew in the entire district from 6 pm today to maintain law and order and prevent any attempt by antisocial elements to disturb peace.

Hazarika said that the night curfew will continue in the coming days until further orders depending on the situation. The DC said that barring a few stray incidents, no major untoward incident has been reported in the district.

He said that administration has taken steps to bring full normalcy in the district with shops starting to open from today across the district with policemen deployed adequately in market areas. Hazarika said that he was visiting different areas of the district and was holding discussions with traders to enable opening of their shops.
