By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 8 Nigerian striker Ugochukwu Ogbuka came to the rescue of Sunrise Athletic Club as they rallied to beat Assam Police Blues 2-1 in a keenly contested encounter of Abhishek Motors RG Baruah GSA Super Division Football League.

On a slightly slippery ground of the Nehru Stadium here today, Karuna Goyari put Assam Police Blues ahead in the 23rd minute but a brace by Ogbuka in the 28th and 72nd minutes took the result of the match in Sunrises favour.

Police goal came off a melee after a flag kick and unmarked Karuna punched home from inside the box.

But after five minutes, Ogbuka beat the Police custodian Deben Mahanta with a sharp header anticipating a floater sent by Vikram Singh from the right flank. The second goal of Sunrise was also scored in a similar way as the Nigerian nodded the ball into the net off a centre sent by Bikam from right flank.

Robijit Jigdung missed the target by whisker in the 80th minute and Sunrise defender Bikash Halder made a goalline save at the fag end of the match off a sharp shot taken by Joseph Maslai.

Both the goalkeepers, Deben Mahanta of Police and Prasanta Debnath of Sunrise, displayed superb game under the bar and made some splendid saves.
