GUWAHATI, Jan 3 � The Director General of National Investigation Agency (NIA) Sharad Kumar is scheduled to visit Assam on January 6 as the agency is investigating four cases of massacre by the Songbijit faction of the NDFB.
Meanwhile, senior officials of the NIA have already reached the State to start the investigation.
Official sources told The Assam Tribune that during his visit to the State, the NIA DG is scheduled to meet senior officials of the State government and police to discuss the cases handed over to the agency. He is also planning to visit the places where the NDFB(S) attacked innocents killing more than 70 persons.
Sources said the NIA has already registered four cases in connection with the massacre by the NDFB (S) and four teams of officers of the agency have been constituted to investigate the cases.
Inspector General of the NIA, GP Singh, an Assam cadre officer, is also in the State to supervise the investigations. He visited Dhekiajuli today and he would visit all the places of occurrence shortly as a part of the investigations.
NIA teams also spoke to the kin of the victims of the massacre to get details of the cases.
Meanwhile, sources said that in addition to investigation of the cases, the NIA was entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out �comprehensive investigation� into the activities of the NDFB(S). Sources revealed that the NIA has been asked to investigate possible links of the NDFB(S) with political leaders, government officials, etc. The agency has also been asked to investigate the sources of funds of the militant outfit and to find out the people who were responsible for providing shelter to the members of the outfit, sources added.
